Riptide is an enchantment in Minecraft exclusive to tridents, allowing the player to use the trident as a means of fast transportation.
What does Riptide do in Minecraft ?
Tridents enchanted with Riptide can only be cast when a player is standing in water, during snowy weather in some biomes, or during rainy weather. In these situations, a thrown trident propels the player with it. Players can reach greater heights by throwing a trident with Riptide directly upwards, and travel greater distances by throwing it from a higher altitude.
The formula for the number of blocks the trident allows the user to travel is (6 × level) + 3 when in rain, snow, or standing in water, and (4 × level) + 3 when underwater.
If the player collides with a creature or another player, the trident takes throwing damage, including critical damage if the player falls. Throwing a trident with Riptide consumes 1 durability. Colliding with a creature to inflict damage consumes 1 durability regardless of version, which means that colliding with Java Edition damages the trident twice. If the trident with Riptide is in the left hand, the damage is dealt with the item in the right hand.
A trident thrown with Riptide can hit multiple targets [Bedrock edition only]. It behaves like an ordinary trident when thrown by a dispenser. But it can fly 10 times faster than an ordinary trident.
Is Loyalty or Riptide better?
It’s better to have Loyalty on your trident. Riptide enchantment is not compatible with Loyalty and Channeling.
