If you play on Minecraft Java Edition, you will need to migrate your Mojang account to a Microsoft account.
Mojang Studios announced that all people who play the Java version of Minecraft and therefore have a Mojang account will be required to migrate to a Microsoft account. Several reasons are put forward to justify this :
- Increased security for your account through two-factor authentication. In other words, it is more difficult for someone to access your account without your authorization.
- All your Minecraft PC games will be connected to the same account. Currently, there are Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons, but maybe others will follow in the future.
- Improved parental controls to help keep children safe when playing online.
- Ability to block messages from chat and invitations.
Please note that migration from Mojang accounts to Microsoft accounts is mandatory. If you don’t, within a few months you won’t be able to log in. That means you won’t be able to play either. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to migrate your Mojang account to a Microsoft account, you’ll find at the end of this page a FAQ that will answer any questions you may have!
Once the migration is complete, everything you had on your Minecraft Java account will still be there. You’ll still be able to create and use mods and skins (while keeping your own, of course), as well as play with your friends on the Minecraft Java servers (regardless of the version). You will also keep your Minecraft Java username, and new players will always be able to choose their Minecraft username.
The only difference ? You’ll receive a nice reward once you log in with your Microsoft / Minecraft account : a special cape ! That way, everyone will know that you were there for the big move and that you have an impeccable sense of fashion.
How to get the Migrator cape when migrating Minecraft account to Microsoft ?
When will this minecraft account migration take place? If you already have a Java or Mojang account, you’ll need to start switching accounts in early 2021. New players who get Java for the first time will create Microsoft accounts rather than Mojang accounts starting this fall. How to migrate minecraft account ? Here’s an overview of the process :
- As there is a large community of Java players, Mojang will have to move players to Microsoft accounts in batches. But everyone will have to go through it.
- You will receive an email with instructions on how to migrate your account. Don’t panic if your friend has received an email and not, everyone will be moved, but little by little.
- Once you have completed the steps, you will use your Microsoft account to log in to Minecraft in the future. You will no longer be able to log in using your Mojang account.
