First unveiled during Minecraft LIVE in March 2025, the Happy Ghast stands out as one of the most surprising additions of the upcoming Summer Update. Unlike the typically hostile Nether creatures, this entity is peaceful by nature and establishes a unique connection with players through its special spawning process and mechanics.

How to Spawn a Happy Ghast
The Happy Ghast does not spawn naturally in the Nether. Instead, its appearance requires a multi-step process that begins with a dried ghast — a fossilized form found in soul sand valleys, often embedded within Nether fossils.

To begin the transformation, you must hydrate the dried ghast using a bucket of water — a rare and valuable resource in such a hostile environment. Once hydrated, the dried ghast turns into a ghastling, its juvenile form. Feeding the ghastling with snowballs will accelerate its growth into its final stage: the Happy Ghast.
As of now, there is no official information confirming whether Happy Ghasts can breed.
Behavior and Utility
With its calm and peaceful temperament, the Happy Ghast is a clear departure from the aggressive ghasts most are familiar with. It can be ridden by up to four people simultaneously, serving as an original airborne mount across the game’s dimensions — provided you equip it with a harness.
Even more remarkable: when one or more people stand on its back, the Happy Ghast remains completely still in the air. This makes it an ideal floating platform for building suspended structures or accessing high vantage points with ease.
Multiplayer Flying Mount
In addition, the Happy Ghast is drawn to individuals holding snowballs, which makes it easy to guide. However, unlike standard ghasts, it is not immune to fire damage, making survival in the harsher regions of the Nether more challenging.
