A Smithing table in Minecraft is a block used to upgrade Netherite diamond equipment with a Netherite ingot and smithing template. It is also used to apply ornaments to armor using smithing templates and ornamentation materials. Both processes retain all enchantments. This is the workbench of the village tool smith.
How to make a Smithing table in Minecraft ?
Making a Smithing table is relatively easy, as it doesn’t require hard-to-find ingredients. You need 2 iron ingots and 4 wooden planks (of any type).
Natural Smithing table generation
Smithing tables can be generated naturally in any Smithing house, provided you can find a village.
How do I use the Smithing table in Minecraft ?
The Smithing table is an essential block for creating Netherite equipment and, since Minecraft 1.20, customizing armor design with patterns and colors.
Upgrading Netherite diamond equipment
To make Netherite armor or equipment, you’ll need to use a Netherite Upgrade smithing template found in the remnants of Nether bastions, in addition to a Netherite ingot and your diamond equipment.
Upgrading equipment does not remove incompatible enchantments, such as several different protective enchantments.
Unlike anvils, using a Smithing table to upgrade equipment to Diamond in Netherite does not cost experience or increase the pre-work penalty.
Customize armor design
The armor trims system requires a compatible piece of armor, a smithing template and the desired color mineral/crystal. The same armor and trim materials are mutually exclusive : you can’t put a gold trim on gold armor, for example.
Changing professions
If a village has a Smithing table that has not been claimed by a villager, any nearby villager who has not chosen a task block has a chance to change his or her trade to Blacksmith.
